CASyM winter school of Systems Medicine took place between March 29th and April 1st 2017 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and is entitled »The 3rd SysBioMed hands-on tutorial: Systems Medicine Approaches in Personalized Medicine«
Molecular Re-classification of Immune Mediated Inflammatory Disease; Are We Beyond Fiction?
In medicine diseases are classified on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms that are often subjective. To achieve personalised medicine, one would need to understand the molecular deficit underlying the disease. Hence, molecular stratification of diseases is imperative to achieve personalised medicine. I will show how to achieve molecular stratification of disease by applying systems medicine. I will show that this leads to a better understanding of diseases and unexpected overlap between diseases not alike. As examples I will embark on diseases that cover the spectrum on immune mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) crossing the spectrum of multiple clinical disciplines involving dermatologists, gastroenterologists, ophthalmologists and rheumatologists.
